Frequently Asked Questions

What is back ‘cracking’ and is it needed?

The ‘click’ or the ‘crack’ is the sound produced when a joint (such as the joints in the spine) form air bubbles in the surrounding fluid.

When the joints stop moving properly air bubbles form in the fluid that surrounds the joint, so when pressure is applied to restore the joint movement, the bubbles can pop causing a ‘click/crack’ sound.

However if there are no bubbles within the joint space, there will be no ‘click/crack’ sound produced all though the motion will still be restored. Therefore you do not need a ‘click/crack’ sound produced for the treatment to still be effective.

Will I have to sign up for an expensive 3-month treatment plan?

ABSOLUTELY NOT!! We will never make you sign up to a financial commitment plan. The number of treatments required is individual to each person and their specific condition and therefore number of treatments needed will vary. We will only ever recommend the required treatments in order for you to achieve your goals whether that be pain free or to restore function and nothing more.

Do I need to undress and what do I wear?

You will only need to undress in some situations for example if neurological testing needs to be carried out we may ask you to remove certain items of clothing. Also if treatment methods such as injections or dry needling is required then we will need to access the area. We recommend wearing comfortable loose fitting clothing as jeans can be quite difficult to work with.

Can I take pain killers before I come for treatment?

If you are in pain and are having to rely on taking pain killers then of course you can take them before your appointment and we would recommend for you to continue to take whatever medication that has been prescribed by the GP.

You may experience some pain or discomfort post treatment due to the inflammatory changes that are stimulated after receiving manual therapy. You may wish to take painkillers (eg, over the counter analgesics or NSAID’s) to help along with using either heat or ice as a non medicated form of pain management.

What is the difference between chiropractic, osteopathy and physiotherapy?

All practitioners are trained in treating musculoskeletal complaints and offer a wide variety of manual therapy techniques. However Chiropractors and Osteopaths receive a masters level of training after 5 years and are registered as doctor level of healthcare practitioners.

Every human is different and therefore may require different approaches in order to provide them the best care therefore we highly recommend finding the right practitioner for you. This may involve seeing multiple people or trying different approaches until you find the service best suited for your individual needs.

Will I have to have my joints cracked?

No! You do not need to have any joints ‘cracked’ if you do not wish to. There are other treatment options available such as joint mobilisation, soft tissue therapy or instrument assisted adjustments (using tools instead of hands) which may not create any sounds eg. ‘click/cracks’ but can still help to relive pain and restore function.

Chiropractors will tailor their treatment approach to the individual person’s comfort level to specifically target the presenting condition in order to help them achieve their health goals.

Do you liaise with other healthcare practitioners?

Yes we do, we are happy to work with whoever is needed to offer you the best service that we can. This includes writing to other practitioners or services eg. GP’s, nutritionists, physiotherapists etc. We believe in a multidisciplinary approach and therefore are always open to contact whoever is needed in order to aid your recovery.
